North Lincolnshire Adventure Challenge
Super start to the Quad Season, good results and plenty of smiling faces

May 30th 2010 saw the 8th running of the North Lincolnshire Adventure Challenge with a strong field of 32 individuals and 10 teams. Conditions were on the slightly breezy side as the competetors waited for the start and first off was a late entry into the competition, Lt Harden Bates who had only just got back from a 6 month tour,  contacting race officials 2 days before the race to see if he could borrow a kayak to race Harden set off at 8.29am.
It was good to see some new faces entering the quad sceen, from as far afield as Northumberland and Cardiff and even two, 2 man teams from Germany! It was also encouraging to see 10 teams entered, for some first timers, who hopefully enjoyed the race so much they may be tempted with two or four disciplins next time!

The bike leg was always going to be tough with the ever increasing wind but competetors battled through it with some achieving Pb's for the 36km bike leg.
Next up was the kayak section and with the now blustery wind made for a tough leg for most racers with quite a few capsizes on the way, undeterred all racers finished the 10km albeit some wetter than others.
Last up was the 10km off road run which has never been an easy 10k but again some people achieved Pb's for this section too.

Overall winner was defending champion Steve Clark 02:27:19 who had the quickest bike leg for a solo in the race history 52:01which includes T1 but also had solid kayak and run legs, second was Andy Grimwood 02:41:54 who had an "Awsome" kayak leg 49:27 and third was Matt Stephenson 02:42:27 who again had solid bike and run legs.

In the Ladies Race Claire Howard, took the lead with a strong bike time, but Jean Ashley put in a fast kayak leg to take the lead and finish with a PB in 02.56.01. Claire held onto 2nd place in 03.05.47 with Alison Deykin in 3rd 03.17.23

The Team event was exciting stuff and was a close forght battle between 'Steve/Kate/Pete' who finished 1st in 02.34.22 and in 2nd 'Would be rude not to' in 2.38.33

Even with the blustery conditions everyone finished with a smile, throughout the race their was a great atmosphere, with lots of support from onlookers and marshalls, and especially at the finish where athletes were cheered on by the fantastic crowd in the market place.

The race officials would especially like to thank the Time keepers aswell as the marshalls and "back room staff" as without these people such races as the Adventure Challenge would not be able to go ahead.

Jean Ashley from the BQA on behalf of the athletes would like to say 'A huge Thank-you to all of 'Lincsquad' for putting on another great race, we can clap our hands and pat them on their backs, but the best way we can repay them for their efforts is to ENTER THE BRIGG BOMBER on the 18th July 2010 its a Full Quadrathlon with a Swim, Kayak, Bike and Run Solo's and teams welcome.
