Joe's 2010 Challenge!

Gone Paddling!
Joe's 2010 Challenge!

Last time I spoke to Joe, he'd talked about doing the Devizes to Westminster Kayak Marathon this Easter, with this years race fast approaching I wondered if he'd sent an entry in?

Ive just had this email in, and I know plenty of you know Joe Andrews through Quadrathlon and Adventure Races, so I just thought you'd like to know why he will be missing from the Quadrathlon Circuit this season. His email read, ''Sorry Jean, I wont  be able to compete in Quadrathlon this season as Im taking on a new challenge - kayaking around the coast of Britain, but will get back to it again in the future.''

This is about the Challenge!
We are Joe Andrews and James Bonell, and on April we’ll be embarking on a 3000-mile sea kayak adventure around the coast of mainland UK, raising money for two charities. We’ll be launching from the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, Cornwall, and hope to make it all the way around our stunning coastline and back to Falmouth by mid-September.

Our fundraising target is a pretty daunting £20,000, to be split equally between WaterAid and the NACC (National Association for Colitis and Crohn’s Disease).

We’ll keep this website updated with photos and blog entries to let you know how things are going throughout the trip. You can also keep track of exactly where we are using the Tracker page, which picks up GPS signals from our boats.

Feel free to browse around the site to find out more, and if you’d like to get in touch with us it’d be great to hear from you – you can do this on the Say Hello page, where you can either leave a message on the website or contact us directly.

For details of NACC and WaterAid, what they do and how your money will help their vital work, check out the details on the Charities page. This is an expensive bit of fundraising for us to undertake, but we’re not taking any of your donations to cover our own costs, so please feel confident about donating as generously as you can.

Finally, if you’re down in Cornwall over the next few months and fancy learning more, you can also visit the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, who are kindly featuring a display about the trip.

About Joe
I’m Joe, I’m 28, and I’m from Bath!

My paddling background is in Freestyle, in which I used to represent GB. After several years as a multi-sport athlete, culminating in a 6th place at the World Quadrathlon Championships in 2008, I made a return to kayaking and have recently been getting more in to marathon racing. I first got in a proper sea kayak early in 2009, got hooked, and a circumnavigation has been on the cards ever since.

In my spare time, I’m a civil engineer and have got a tolerant girlfriend called Lucy who’s going to bring me cakes. You can find more details of the expedition here: www.gonepaddling.co.uk

Joe's doing it for the charity Wateraid, so please feel free to make a donation on the justgiving site.

Joe will be making a return to Quadrathlon.. at some point, but until then you can follow the blog to keep up to date with progress.

Good Luck Joe from all your Quad Buddies, we shall be following you all the way, dont forget send him a message!
