Ibiza Quadrathlon
9th May 2010

Quadrathlon began 21 years ago in on the Spanish island Ibiza, the Diamond Man, the distances for this very first Quadrathlon were 5km swim, 20kmkayak, 100km bike and 21.1km run.

The Race which is held today on the Island of Ibiza, is middle distance 1.5km Swim, 8km kayak, 40km bike, 10km run. Unfortunately, the race this year is still uncertain on the racing calendar. The organizer Pepe Ribas has various problems with approvals from the local government, too few sponsors, and little support.

But you may be able to help, if some foreign athletes commit to race in Ibiza, Pepe can lobby the authorities and they have said they will give the race more support.

Ibiza Quad is scheduled for 9th May, it is well worth the trip to the Balearic island. I raced their in 2008 and had a great 4 day break. Tthe organizers provide convenient accommodation for the athletes in a super hotel close by, reduced rates, great food (and plenty of it) with sea and sand, a stone's throw away from the pool! Kayaks for rent, (but we didnt have to pay for them) a bit like bath tubs, but that was fine as most of us were in the same types! Plenty of athletes stayed a little longer in Ibiza and used it as a training camp before or after the race, a great start to the season and good to have some warm sunny weather!

Anyone who wishes to race in Ibiza could you contact the organizer Pepe Ribas, or Silke Harenberg, to let them know you are interested.

Pepe Ribas: Phone: +34 607 800 439, or email quadriatlonisladeibiza@hotmail.com

Silke Harenberg: email silke.harenberg@gmx.de

Also if you email me (Jean) malpasashleys@btinternet.com just so I know if we have a British Team going over. Thanks, this could be the kick start to your training ... and your first Quad of the 2010 Season!
