Wadenhoe Winter Series Race 1
A great start to the winter for Tim!
Most athletes, drove to Wadenhoe on Sunday 29th November, in very heavy rain and sleet, plus a cold easterly wind, no doubt thinking I must be mad!
But by 10.00 the black clouds had moved away and the sun came out, the conditionns for a winter race were looking rather good! The Run went very well for most, with only one or two loosing shoes in the swamp, in the past I had seen the mud alot lot worse! First out of the run was Tim Bateman, followed by Colin Peek. The kayak conditions were superb, there was no wind at all and the river was very calm, canoist Andy Grimwood, soon caught Colin, but Tim was all ready well in the lead.
The Bike course had changed this year, reduced to 6 laps but had added 2 extra hills, the verdict ... it was tougher! The bike course was a little muddy but on the whole it stayed very ridable. Newcomer to Quadrathlons 1.14.33 an amazing 16 mins ahead of his nearest rival Andy Grimwood. Andy MV40 held Colin off on the bike and final run to come 2nd in 1.32.05 and Colin Peek 3rd.in 1.32.39
Nichole Zahn, put in a solid performance to take the first ladies prize 1.56.21. There were alot of regulars, Richard Stagg first MV50 1.35.16 and Will Carr, both putting in solid performances, Jean and Dave Ashley joining up as a team just for a change! It was really good to see alot of newcomers, and the BQA hope they have been bitten by the Quadrathlon bugg and we will see them at more races in 2010!
Dont forget the next race 17th January, to work of that Christmas pud!
