And you thought Pembroke was rough....

Philip Nye, a well seasond Quadrathlete headed for Maderia this summer for a challenge that proved to be a real tough one.

A "XVIII Round Madeira by Canoe 2009"Is an international event of F.P.C. and ICF, organized by the Training Center Sea of Madeira. This event is internationally known for his toughness, organization and the beauty that the island offers. Madeira is located 1500 kilometers west of Lisbon. The eighteenth Round Madeira by Canoe has 141 km of way divided into 9 stages. Held between 25 August and 30 August. Registration is open to Sea Kayak - K1 and K2 Ski and Surf.

During the 6 days we were faced with mixed conditions, and horribly rough seas for about three of them, which proved to be really tough. Phil failed to complete two out of the nine stages, you can understand why when you look at the photos, he came second to last. Phil said on reflection after the race, "I would do it again now, knowing better what to expect - but perhaps in a double canoe.
