Steve Clark presses hard on the run

Sunday the 24th May saw competitors arrive from all over UK to compete in The CMS Groundworks North Lincs Adventure Challenge. The CMS Groundworks North Lincolnshire Adventure Challenge is an adventure race which is run annually on the bank holiday weekend towards the end of May. There are three disciplines consisting of: a 36 kilometre cycle race on the roads around Brigg, two laps in a canoe or kayak around the Brigg 'Island' and a 10K trail run finishing in Brigg Market Place. The weather this year was total opposite to the previous 3 years as light winds and red hot sun baked all the competitors.
 
The Race started with the 36 kilometre bike leg with all competitors setting of at 1 minute intervals. First off was the teams with Local team Lincsquad getting things going. The fastest bike time of the day 52.48 was posted by up and coming talent Ian Burkinshaw from Scawby, closely followed by Steve Clark 19 seconds down with a time off 53:07, Pete Connolly was in 3rd position after the bike recording 54:00. Michelle Higgs (TFN) from Nottingham 01:05:33 was 1st lady on the bike followed by Lisa Boardman from Ireland just 1 second behind her.
 
On the Kayak leg Richard Golder Nottingham Kayak Club moved from 6th to 1st with a kayak time of 46.50 (course record), Pushing Ian Burkinshaw 55:30 down to 2nd and Steve Clark 55:32 to 3rd. Andy Grimwood from Lincoln moved from 12th after the bike up to 4th overall with the 2nd fastest kayak time off the day 48:13. Michelle Higgs pushed on in the kayak moving further ahead with a time of 01:04:01.
 
Onto the run the last of the 3 diciplines, Richard Goulder had a 3 minute lead over the rest of the field, Steve Clark from Bottesford smashed the run course record setting a time of 38:23 to take the overall win with a combined time of 02:27:02. Ian Burkinshaw managed to run himself into 2nd overall with a run time 41:26 with Richard 02:31:03 holding of returning veteran Keith Longney 02:34:34 (winner of this race 6 times). Michelle Higgs just managed to hold on to win the female race with a time of 03:11:34.

The days racing was a success and a big thank you to everyone that help organise, marshall and support the race. The evening was then spent at the King Billy in pink t shirts in support of Brigg Breast Cancer Support.
