I’m sure most of you will have time to wear your lycra, and get out for a swim, kayak, bike or run over the festive holidays! Like all the athletes I know, we like to get out in the fresh air for some fun on the trails, or a blast on the river ….. leaving room for more Christmas cake and mulled wine! It’s what makes most of us tick ….. and besides, I bet we will all want to test out our new Christmas toys, with 4 disciplines to master, there’s always something to try out, even if its only new socks!

abdominal-snowmanOver Christmas we might not all have Abs as good as this, but I’m sure once you get your Race plan sorted, and training underway they will soon be well defined!

I have been busy leasing with race organizers over the last few months and we have got a really exciting season ahead. The BQA are so pleased to be launching 2 and hopefully 3 new races to our calender next season. Dearne Valley Quad at Manvers Lake are organizing a Sprint Quad and also running our first ever ‘QuadKidz’ Race, this is great news for our sport and we hope to see lots of youngsters taking up the challenge, age categories from (9 – 12) (13- 15) (16- 18) and only a £6 entry fee for them! It will be so exciting to see ‘our budding Quadrathlete Stars’ of the future in action!

The next new race is the Deva Divas Quad in Chester one very close to my heart, I have been involved in the Deva Divas (Ladies only) Triathlon since it started 10 years ago. My Club ‘Chester Tri’ have decided to let me add a Ladies Quad to this prestigious event. This will be the first ever Ladies only Quad in the World, and its aim is to introduce women into our sport, in an exceptionally friendly atmosphere. It will be my turn to cheer all you Ladies all on …. in ‘True Ashley Style’ …… SMILING is COMPULSORY ….. you’ll just love it!                                                         This race will not be in the Trophy Series, as its ‘Ladies only’ but it has our full support and is affiliated to the BQA. We hope its going to be a big stepping stone which will introduce more ladies into our sport, its on 16th July and all the details are on our ‘Event’s page.

We also have the possibility of another Quad, Reading Canoe Club want to host an off road quadrathlon next year on the grounds of the Mapledurham Estate, we are working with them and at the moment are waiting for a confirmation of a date … so watch this space too!

We are also very pleased to announce that we have 2 World Cup races ‘The Brigg Bomber’ and Box End, so athletes wanting to be competitive in the WQF Series will only have to do just one other race in Europe, you can see the WQF Races on our Events page. The Brigg Bomber will also be our NATIONAL Championships for 2017.

So its time to plan your Race Calender ….. get your entries in and have a reason to start training. Having a goal does wonders for your motivation, kick start your training right now …… I will let you off if you want to leave your first training session it until 26th December!
