Well done to BQA Quadrathletes that raced at the National Kayak Championships at Worcester over the Bank Holiday weekend. The conditions were choppy, fairy windy, with plenty of big washes and lots of serious competition! Congratulations go to Ryan Hunt U18 C1 SILVER – Maddie de Ferrer U14 K1 6th, and U14 K2 SILVER – Andy Grimwood (racing against the very best GB Veteran paddlers) Vet 39 K1 8th – Jean Ashley Vet 49 K1 GOLD and just missed out on a bronze coming 4th Vet 44 K2.

After a great result at the Nationals in K2, Maddie has been picked to represent the GB Marathon Kayak Team U14 WK2, at the Loire Marathon on 25th September .. good luck to Maddie and Lucy Lee Smith!

Is that a new boat Jean? :)

    Well done.

Ive had it 2 years now, its a Kirton Typhoon, next one up from the Tor, I love it though can be a bit twitchy in big washes!

Hi Jean – great article – one small thing, Maddie is going to Loire and won the U14s – but that’s my sister, not me. Maddie will hopefully at Sedlcany next year, but hasn’t been yet!

Other than that – congratulations for your result!

Agghhhh sorry about that, did’nt realise there was a Marthe and a Maddie, good luck to Maddie and hope to meet up with you Marthe soon … maybe at the training weekend!

Thanks for mentioning Ryan! He had great success at the national sprints too, having not long returned from representing GB in the mens open dragon boating team, where they won a bronze medal in Tampa bay in August.

As his C1 paddlings more settled now Ryan is thinking about Winter wadenhoe and Boxend again in the new season and hopes to be back in the Quad scene.
